RCMP in New Brunswick say a woman who was reported missing last month actually crossed into the United States two years ago, so the file has been handed over to an American police force.
Tracey Smith (born Tracey McLean), 52, has not had contact with her family for more than two years. On Jan. 23, she was reported missing to Codiac Regional RCMP.
Police said at the time they were looking to confirm her well-being.
On Thursday, RCMP said their investigation has revealed that Smith crossed the border into the United States at Houlton, ME in 2017.
“There are no reports suggesting Ms. Smith has re-entered Canada since,” RCMP said in a news release.
The investigation into Smith’s whereabouts is now being conducted by the Houlton Police Department.
