Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s ‘sad’ split from Prince William and Kate made official

The Royal Foundation has filed documents with Companies House to remove the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from its name. It comes after it was announced earlier this year that Meghan and Harry were breaking away to set up their own charity.

An insider told the Daily Mail: “It’s very sad. But this is just the formal confirmation that they are going their separate ways.”

Since 2018, the charity has been known as The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

But it will be renamed the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The brothers set up the charity back in 2009 to focus on causes including the armed forces, conservation and mental health.

Kate’s name was added in 2011 when she married William and it was only just over a year ago in June 2018 that it was changed again to bring in Meghan following her royal wedding to Harry.

The two couples, once dubbed the “Fab Four”, appeared on stage together in February 2018 for the Royal Foundation forum, in what was expected to be the first of many events.

Harry even joked they were “stuck together for the rest of our lives” as they opened up about family disagreements.

But they have now gone their separate ways, with Meghan and Harry establishing their own charity which will be called Sussex Royal The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It was announced in June that Meghan and Harry would split from their joint foundation with William and Kate.

A statement said the decision was made after a review into the charity’s structure.

It added: “These changes are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities of Their Royal Highnesses as they prepare for their future roles, and to better align their charitable activity with their new households.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are incredibly proud of what they have achieved together through The Royal Foundation.

“They are especially proud to have established a charity that has had, and will continue to have, significant long-lasting impact, changing lives for the better.”

It comes amid persistent rumours of a rift between the brothers and their wives.

Meghan and Harry moved from next door to William and Kate to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor ahead of Archie’s arrival in May.

They also broke awaySince 2018, it has been known as The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex from their shared Kensington Palace household, setting up new offices at Buckingham Palace.

And they now have their own Instagram, having previously shared social media accounts with the Cambridges.

Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magzine Ingrid Seward warned that Meghan and Harry’s approach to royal life could be “detrimental” to the monarchy.

Speaking on Channel 5 documentary William & Harry: Princes At War? on Sunday, the royal commentator said: “I would think it might bother William a little bit, because he might see the way that Harry and Meghan do things as being detrimental to the business of the monarchy as a whole.”
