Abbas seeks India's support in future Israeli-Palestinian talks

Palestinian leaders have hailed Narendra Modi’s visit to Ramallah – the first ever by an Indian prime minister – as “historic”.

    Narendra Modi has wrapped up the first official visit by an Indian prime minister to the Palestinian territories.

    Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told Modi that he needs New Delhi’s support during future talks with Israel.

    Abbas’s government is seeking new allies after US President Donald Trump caused an uproar by recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

    Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports Ramallah.
