Chilling moment man, 53, almost abducts baby from mother at supermarket checkout

Heartstopping surveillance camera footage captured the moment a 53 year-old man almost abducted a baby from under the infant’s mom’s nose. The kidnapper – who police say is Jeffrey Roholt – caught sight of the baby sat in a shopping cart at a self-pay checkout inside the shop in Flagstaff, Arizona on Thursday morning.

He could be seen turning around after paying, and glancing at the baby’s mom, who had her back to the cart while she scanned her goods.

The abductor then began pushing the woman’s cart with her baby inside away from the mom, as she continued to scan her shopping, oblivious to what was happening behind her.

Roholt is said to have been on his way out of the store when the baby’s mom realized what had happened, and ran after him before he was able to exit the premises with her child.

Roholt left the scene before officers could arrive, it is claimed, although he was subsequently identified, arrested and charged with a single count of kidnapping.

The suspect is said to have told investigators that he wheeled the cart away after mistaking it for his own cart, even though no cart was visible next to his checkout while he was scanning his goods.
