Cop hunting sex offender went to wrong house – then shot child's pet dog dead

A sheriff’s deputy went looking for a sex offender at the wrong address – and ended up shooting a child’s beloved pet dog dead. James Freeman, from Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas, killed terrier mix Clide after mistakenly turning up at Chris Coiner’s home in Little Rock on Monday afternoon.

Coiner says Clide was gunned down after barking at Freeman. He recorded his interaction with Freeman after Clide was shot, and could be heard demanding that the cop gave his name as he began to walk away.

Freeman responded: ‘I’m investigator Freeman with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office…I’m looking for Samuel.’ Coiner asked Freeman what the address was, and on being told the number answered: ‘That’s over there you Goddamn moron. Get off my property! You shot and killed my dog.’

The furious dad says he has since discovered that Freeman had previously been to Samuel’s address, realized the sex offender wasn’t in, and shot Clide anyway for barking at him.

And Coiner insisted his family’s pet posed no risk to Freeman, telling KATV: ‘My daughter was coming to the door and said somebody was in the driveway.

‘Just a blue pickup, unmarked. Before I was even around the corner here, I heard a shot, and the officer had shot my dog right here in the yard for barking at him.

‘My girlfriend watched it out the window, the dog was not attacking him, the dog was barking, in my yard, on private property.’

Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office has launched a probe into Clide’s shooting – but Coiner says he’s outraged that Freeman hasn’t been suspended from work.

He said: ‘He’s at work today and my protecting guard dog here will never work again because he killed him yesterday.’

A sheriff’s office spokesman declined to comment on their investigation into Clide’s death.
