Donald Trump wrongly claims he's won US presidential election

Donald Trump has wrongly claimed to have won the US presidential election before all votes were counted.

Speaking at the White House early Wednesday, the President of the United States said: ‘We were getting ready to win this election.  Frankly, we did win this election.’ The count is currently ongoing, with the Associated Press putting Joe Biden at 225 electoral college votes, with Trump trailing slightly at 213. Whoever clinches 270 or more votes will win.

Trump branded the close race between him and Joe Biden ‘an embarrassement to the American people.’

He claimed to have won key swing states even though they have not officially declared their results. Trump said Wednesday morning that he was ‘most importantly winning Pennsylvania by a tremendous amount.’

The president also claimed to have won North Carolina, Georgia and Michigan, which are leaning towards him, but have not confirmed their results.

Pennsylvania is thought to be key in deciding the result of the election, although officials there have warned that mail-in votes will not be counted until later on Wednesday at the earliest.

He warned he ‘will not stand’ for anyone trying to win what he claims is his upcoming victory in the US presidential election, and has vowed to take the results to the US Supreme Court to try and ensure he wins.

Speaking at the White House Wednesday morning, Trump hailed how ‘millions and millions’ of people had voted for him, then added: ‘A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people and we will not stand for it. The results tonight are phenomenal. We are getting ready to celebrate something that was so beautiful, so good. Such a vote, such a success. ‘

Trump added: ‘We were getting ready for a big celebration.  We were winning everything and all of a sudden it was just called off.  The results tonight were phenomenal…They’re never gonna catch us. They can’t catch us.’

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Trump was censored by Twitter for writing: ‘We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!’

Trump spoke as a widely-predicted Joe Biden landslide win failed to materialized. Biden struck a cheerful tone earlier on Wednesday, insisting he was still in with a good chance of winning.
