Evacuation under way after pilot threatens to crash plane into supermarket

US police have ordered an evacuation over threats a hijacked plane could be flown into a supermarket.

Footage posted on social media showed an aircraft flying low above the area in Mississippi.

The Tupelo Police Department said it was made aware of an out of control plane at 5am this morning.

It said the pilot is ‘threatening to intentionally crash into Wal Mart on West Main’ and is contact with them to talk them down.

As of one hour ago, the situation was described as ‘ongoing’ and there have been not further updates.

A statement continued: ‘Citizens are asked to avoid that area until an all clear is given.

‘With the mobility of an airplane of that type the danger zone is much larger than even Tupelo.’

Currently we have a 29yr old who stole this plane & is threatening to crash it into something. Polices ,ambulances ,& fire trucks are everywhere. Everything is shutdown rn pic.twitter.com/AzebdIa3tP
