The FBI is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who planted pipe bombs in Washington during the Capitol building riots on Wednesday.
A $50,000 reward is being offered by investigators in exchange for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect responsible for placing the bombs.
A photograph of the FBI’s number one suspect has been released on its website and on Twitter, after the bombs were discovered at two separate location in the capitol at 1pm local time.
The suspected bombs were found at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and at the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
A photograph taken from CCTV footage shows a person the FBI wants to speak to following the discovery of the bombs. It shows the person wearing a grey jumper, dark jeans, black gloves and black trainers with white laces, and carrying a black bag.
The FBI is encouraging anyone with information that could lead them to know the location or the identity of the person to get in touch as soon as possible.
Investigators are also asking people to help identify people who ‘violated federal laws’ in the riots. The FBI has appealed for tips on the Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol building and caused criminal damage.
Anyone with information should contact the FBI’s tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), or submit tips online at fbi.gov/USCapitol.
Members of the public may also contact their local FBI office or the nearest American embassy or consulate.
