A firefighter responded to a blaze at his own home that resulted in his wife being killed.
Corey Logan raced to the scene of a fire at his home in Miami, Florida on Tuesday to find his wife unable to escape the smoke and flames.
Logan’s co-worker Christopher Morales wrote on a GoFundMe page for the wife that ‘something was wrong at his house.’
Morales said that Logan received a notification from the security system at his house which ‘showed a neighbor frantically banging on his front door.’
‘Unfortunately when we arrived, we had the worst case scenario,’ Morales wrote. ‘There was heavy smoke and fire coming from his house with his wife inside,’
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Spokeswoman Erika Benitez released a statement saying that Logan’s wife ‘tragically’ passed away, but they did not name her.
‘At this time, out of respect for the family, we kindly ask for privacy as they are dealing with this tragic loss,’ Benitez said. ‘We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we are focusing on supporting our firefighter and their family.’
Morales said that Logan’s wife had been dealing with medical conditions and that the husband had ‘been his wife’s caretaker for many years.’
It is not yet clear how the fire started or how his wife was caught in the flames.
The GoFundMe page that was setup has raised almost $57,000 as of Wednesday.
