Kamala Harris says 'We did it Joe' as Biden is named next US president

This is the moment Kamala Harris spoke to Joe Biden after he was named President-elect of the United States. A video shared on Harris’s Twitter feed Saturday showed her in jogging gear while on the phone, saying: ‘We did it. We did it Joe. You’re going to be the next President of the United States.’

Harris shared the clip of the special moment shortly after she and Biden both tweeted their acceptance of their victory in this year’s contest.

Harris – the highest-ranking woman in the history of the US government – wrote: ‘This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.

Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff shared his own photo of himself hugging Harris after she and Biden were declared winners, with the caption: ‘So proud of you.’

Harris, whose mother was from India, and whose father was Jamaican, is also the highest-ranking woman of color in US government history.

And Biden said: ‘America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.

‘The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.’

Trump, who went golfing in Sterling, Virginia, shortly before the result was announced, has released his own statement saying that Biden’s victory is ‘false’ and that he ‘does not accept’ the result that will see him become the first president to be booted after a single term in office since George HW Bush was beaten by Bill Clinton in 1992.
