SIU clears Brantford police of wrongdoing after man jumped from hospital parking garage

The SIU has ended its investigation into the injuries sustained by a 43-year-old Brantford man.

It says on Feb. 7, the man was admitted to hospital under the Mental Health Act, but he fled and ran to the hospital parking garage.

When police arrived, the Special Investigations Unit says the man ran to the opposite side of the parking garage and jumped, falling four storeys to the ground below.

SIU director Tony Loparco said, “It is apparent that the man was solely responsible for his injuries.”

He added, “There is no evidence to suggest that his reason for jumping from a parking structure or his injuries were caused by the acts or omissions of any police officer. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
