A 20 year-old teacher was shot and killed by her 19 year-old domestic abuser boyfriend, police say. Autumn Garay died after being shot in the chest on November 29, after her boyfriend Brenen Mosley allegedly killed her as she tried to leave his apartment in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Autumn’s dad Rigoberto Garay says his late daughter had suffered years of domestic abuse at the hands of her on-off boyfriend. He said: ‘As a father, I would have thought my kids were going to bury me.
‘I miss her so much. She didn’t ask for none of this. This monster did this.’ Autumn worked as a teacher at the Beth-El Zedeck Congregation, alongside her sister Amber Jaquez, 26.
Jaquez has now helped launch an anti-domestic violence campaign in her sister’s memory. She told the Indy Star: ‘We don’t want to let this become another statistic, just another story or another murder. So we won’t stop until we get the justice.
‘We don’t want this to happen to anyone else. We don’t want this guy to get out of jail.’ Jaquez said she had previously reported Mosley to the police for domestic abuse in the hopes of getting Autumn to leave him.
After allegedly shooting Autumn, Mosley is said to have turned the gun on himself, but escaped with a graze to his head.
He is said to have told police during a subsequent interview that he ‘didn’t want (Autumn) to die alone.’
Mosley has been charged with murder, and is being held in jail ahead of his next court appearance.
