Donald Trump is home alone on Christmas Eve – but he is filling his time with one Twitter rant after another.
The president wants sympathy for having to be in the White House all alone after he cancelled a planned trip to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida due to the US government shutdown.
Trump refuses to approve a budget that does not have $5bn for a wall on the border between the US and Mexico and has repeatedly said it is urgently needed.
Immigration across the border is currently estimated to be at an 11 year low.
With few staff in the West Wing because of the shutdown Trump is apparently on his own and has fired off several angry messages on his profile.
He started off his Christmas Eve trying to shift the blame for the shutdown onto the Democrats – despite saying on TV cameras last week he would welcome a shutdown over border security and would in fact be proud to force one.
He wrote: "Virtually every Democrat we are dealing with today strongly supported a Border Wall or Fence.
"It was only when I made it an important part of my campaign, because people and drugs were pouring into our Country unchecked, that they turned against it. Desperately needed!"
Republicans currently have a majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
He then turned his attention to the criticism levelled at him for the resignation of Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis.
Trump then directed his ire at US envoy Brett McGurk whose resignation swiftly followed that of Mattis, both being unhappy with Trump’s decision to withdraw 2,000 troops from Syria.
McGurk has led the US’s fight against ISIS since 2015 but in a tweet sent yesterday Trump said he did not know him and called him a "grandstander".
He blamed McGurk for the Iran nuclear deal when the US released money back to the country which had been seized due to sanction violations.
The United States president then simply tweeted: "AMERICA IS RESPECTED AGAIN!", without any apparent evidence.
But less than an hour later his mind had moved onto the plummeting economy which has suffered a poor December.
Trump blames the Federal Reserve and the keen golfer decided to use his favourite sport as an analogy.
Then it was the turn of the ‘Fake News Media’ to face his social media wroth following a CNN report that Trump had ‘lashed out’ at his Acting Attorney General when federal prosecutors referenced his action’s in crimes committed by his former lawyer Michael Cohen.
He wrote: "I never “lashed out” at the Acting Attorney General of the U.S., a man for whom I have great respect. This is a made up story, one of many, by the Fake News Media!".
Soon after he was back onto the subject of the ‘badly needed wall’. It’s an impasse over the wall which has caused the US shutdown.
Going back to his decision to withdraw US troops from Syria, Trump said Saudi Arabia would ‘spend the money’ to rebuild Syria.
Trump has refused to blame the powerful Middle Eastern country for the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi embassy in Turkey in October.
And, if it wasn’t already clear, Trump then said he was all alone at the White House… and wanted some sympathy.
What will the rest of the day bring? One man who could keep him company is Piers Morgan – who has offered on Twitter to keep him company.
