The US has gotten 70% of Americans ages 30 and over to take at least one Covid-19 jab, but is expected to miss President Joe Biden’s July 4 vaccination goal. Biden aimed to have 70% of Americans ages 18 and over with at least one shot by Independence Day, but that is not projected to happen until late July, the White House announced.
By July 4, Americans ages 27 and over will likely hit Biden’s 70% target for vaccinations, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeff Zients said in a news briefing on Tuesday.
‘Our goal for 70% for all adults – we’re going to hit it for adults 27 and over,’ Zients said. ‘Where the country has more work to do is particularly with 18- to 26-year-olds.’
The reality is that many young Americans believe that the coronavirus does not impact them and ‘they have been less eager to get the shot’, Zients said.
‘It will take a few extra weeks to get all adults to get at least one shot,’ he said.
With the Delta variant spreading across the country, Zients pushed the importance of getting vaccinated to adults 18 to 26 years old.
