Who is Joe Biden's wife Jill, and do they have any children?

Jill Biden made waves earlier this year when she protected her husband, democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, from a protester who invaded the stage at a rally in Los Angeles in March. But who is the potential next First Lady of the United States?

Jill has appeared regularly at Democratic Party rallies, having taken a break from work to support her husband’s election campaign.

However, she plans to return to work after its conclusion, as she did during her two terms as the Second Lady of the United States.

Here’s all you need to know.

What age is Jill Biden and when did she marry Joe?

Jill Biden was born Jill Tracy Jacobs on June 3, 1951 in Hammonton, New Jersey, a town famous for its blueberry production – so much so that the Red, White and Blueberry Festival is held there every year. However, she was raised in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

She’s 69 years old, eight years Joe Biden’s junior, and the two married 43 years ago, on June 17, 1977, two years after meeting on a blind date that had been arranged by Joe’s brother Frank, who like Jill had studied at the University of Delaware.

This was Jill’s second marriage, her first to Bill Stevenson having broken down in 1974.

Does Jill Biden have children?

Jill and Joe Biden have one daughter together, Ashley Blazer Biden, a 39-year-old activist, social worker and fashion designer.

When they married, Jill Biden became stepmother to Joseph “Beau” Biden and Robert Hunter Biden, the children from Joe’s previous marriage to Neilia Hunter.

The couple had had three children together, but Neilia and their young daughter Naomi Christina Biden died in a traffic collision in 1972.

Beau Biden died at the age of 46 in 2015, two years after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

What is Jill Biden’s job?

Aside from protecting her husband from stage crashers, Jill Biden – or, rather, Dr Jill Biden – has a background in education.

She gained a Doctor of Education doctoral degree from the University of Delaware in 2007, to go with her bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees, and has been teaching since the 1970s.

Jill has worked at high schools, community colleges and a psychiatric hospital for adolescents, and plans to return to her role as English professor at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) if Joe Biden is elected president and she becomes First Lady.

She taught English at NOVA throughout both of her terms as Second Lady of the United States, and is believed to be the first Second Lady to hold a job while in the role.
