Woman, 100, enjoys first trip to favorite supermarket in year after her vaccine

An excited centenarian enjoyed her first trip to her favorite supermarket in a year after having her second dose of her Covid vaccine. Lucinda Mills, from Angelton in Texas, was finally able to head back to her beloved H-E-B supermarket on Sunday, a fortnight after having her second shot of Moderna’s vaccine.

Lucinda, who turned 100 last September, was told the news by her granddaughter Tamesha Mills, who shared the happy moment on her Facebook profile. Tamesha surprised her grandma with the news, and told her: ‘Yes, I’m taking you to H-E-B. Are you excited?’

Lucinda smiled and answered: ‘Yes… Lordy Yes.’ Tamesha then reminded her grandma of the $100 gift card their local H-E-B manager had given Lucinda to celebrate her 100th birthday.

She said: ‘You are going to spend your H-E-B gift card, you’re finally getting out of this house. I’m so excited for you.’ Lucinda answered: ‘Me too.’ She later posed for some photos outside H-E-B after arriving.

Explaining the significance of the outing on Facebook, Tamesha wrote: ‘She loves H-E-B. That is the only thing that kept her going, was waiting on the day to go to her favorite grocery store.’

Lucinda is extremely fussy about her groceries, but is also careful about her health, and stuck to her doctor’s orders to self-isolate until she received her vaccine.

The much-loved grandma also explained how the vaccine had temporarily given her a sore arm, but that that symptom has since disappeared.

Tamesha explained that her elderly loved-one had the vaccine after deciding that ‘the benefits outweighed the risks’ of Lucinda contracting Covid were she not to have it.

The US has recorded 28.67 million Covid cases, and more than 515,000 deaths.

Vaccination efforts in the US are gathering steam, with 76.9 million doses so-far given out, and more than 1.8million shots being injected every day over the last week.
