China hopes for better bilateral ties with new Japan PM Kishida

BEIJING – China is hopeful for better relations with Japan, with new Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in charge in Tokyo, despite his latest comments on Beijing and his Cabinet line-up.

Chinese state media have largely taken a conciliatory tone towards Mr Kishida, who came to power after winning a poll last week to lead the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He became prime minister, given the LDP coalition’s majority in both chambers of Parliament.
