All flights suspended at Russian airport after 'unknown' object seen in sky

Russia has closed its airspace after an ‘unknown’ object was spotted floating over St Petersburg.

All flights at Pulkovo Airport, located 14 miles south of the city centre, have been temporarily suspended today.

Reports on social media have identified the object as a drone, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities said on their official Telegram channel that all flights flights have been halted until midday local time.

But no reason was provided for the suspension.

Data from the Flight Radar website showed a number of domestic flights headed for St Petersburg turning back to their destinations.

Meanwhile, the airspace closure also appeared to be affecting flights on route to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, which requires planes to fly over the city.
