Prince Andrew has been forced to return his nine patronages and military titles after a US judge decided to go ahead with the sexual abuse allegation trial this September. Dan Johnson, a BBC correspondent, claimed the Duke of York, who was the Colonel of Grenadier Guards, would have been “front and centre” at the Trooping The Colour ceremony at the Platinum Jubilee celebration. Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Thursday to confirm Prince Andrew and the Queen had agreed he should fight the lawsuit Virginia Giuffre launched against him as a “private citizen.”
The Duke has repeatedly and vehemently denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Mr Johnson said: “As a high profile, working member of the Royal Family, the Duke of York has appeared at many big events in the past and would have been expected at other formal occasions in future.
“Indeed, this summer, as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, he should’ve been front and centre of that regiment at Trooping The Colour in front of the Queen during her Platinum Jubilee year.
“It’s that sort of clash with these allegations overshadowing him that the Royal Family seemed to have decided they just need to put an end to. “

The Queen reportedly summoned Prince Charles and Prince William to Windsor Castle to discuss the removal of Prince Andrew’s titles.
The meeting at Windsor Castle took place on Wednesday and went on for an hour before the final announcement was made by the Queen.
BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell claimed William and Charles’ “hand” could be detected in the announcement confirming the Duke of York would no longer hold any honorary military title.
Speaking on BBC News at Ten, he said: “I think we can detect the hands of Charles and William in all of this.
“It would be very odd if the Queen was not consulting them – was not taking their council – particularly in the absence of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Andrew stripped of military titles and royal patronages
“They will be concerned, I’m sure, for Andrew at a human level, but they are very much more concerned for the reputation of the institution.
“Andrew’s position regarding the regiments was plainly untenable, he has agreed, we’re told, not to use the styling of HRH anymore and he will fight this case as a private citizen.”
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen.
“The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”

The statement came after 152 British military veterans wrote a letter to the Queen requesting her to strip off the titles from the Duke.
The military veterans expressed their disappointment in the Queen who was questioned on considering the action since the last eleven years, “It’s been eleven years since the press revealed Prince Andrew’s inappropriate friendship with Jeffrey Epstein” who has made him to “step back” but not step down from the titles.
They continued: “We understand that he is your son, but we write to you in your capacity as head of state and as Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
“These steps could have been taken at any time in the past 11 years. Please do not leave it any longer.”
