Another blow for Boris as Tories fined £17,800 over Number 11 flat refurbishment

The Conservative Party has been fined £17,800 for breaking electoral law over the refurbishment of the Downing Street flat.

A long-awaited investigation from the Electoral Commission found laws on the reporting of donations ‘were not followed’ over the costly revamp.

The probe found ‘serious failings in the party’s compliance systems’.

It comes as more bad news for Boris Johnson, who is under growing pressure to resign amid a snowballing scandal about Christmas parties at Downing Street last winter.
