Rachael Maskell, the Member of Parliament for York Central, told the BBC that she is self-isolating following the advice she received during a phone call with the NHS’s 111 service. It was announced that Health Minister Nadine Dorries had been diagnosed with the COVID-19 coronavirus last night.
Ms Maskell said: “I met with Nadine Dorries like an MP would to represent my constituents last Thursday to discuss issues about mental health within York.
“On learning that she has tested positive for coronavirus I have contacted NHS 111 to seek advice on what actions I should take.
“I spoke to NHS 111 overnight upon hearing the news.
“I have been placed in self-isolation until March 19 following that meeting.
“It is really important that we follow the advice that the experts are giving us to make sure that we contain and delay the spread of this virus.
“Even if we are feeling well in ourselves it is really important that we play our part in this national effort.”
Nadine Dorries, 62, is a British Conservative politician and MP for Mid Bedfordshire – a seat she has held since 2005.
Ms Dorries has served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Care since 2019.
