Boris Johnson has faced a number of scandals since becoming Prime Minister, and has subsequently seen his approval rating getting lower and lower. The Government now faces its biggest challenge yet, as Sue Gray is expected to release her Partygate report on Wednesday.

The Cabinet Secretary concluded her investigation into lockdown parties in Downing Street earlier this year.

But, she only previously published small segments of the report as the Metropolitan Police was running its own, separate investigation.

The Prime Minister was only fined for one event in Downing Street, despite being linked to numerous others.

Mr Johnson even attended some parties where other guests were fined by the police, too.

Boris Johnson’s approval rating

The PM has seen his approval rating gradually lower throughout her tenure in No 10.

Just 26 percent of the public think Mr Johnson is doing well as Prime Minister, according to the latest YouGov poll.

At the same time, 68 percent thought he was doing a badly as PM; just shy of the record high of 73 percent in January this year.

The Government as a whole is also facing an approval rating crisis, however.

The latest poll revealed 62 percent of people disapproved of the Government, which is the highest its been since September 2019.

Just over one in five approved of the Government, while 17 percent were unsure.

Almost half of the public thought Mr Johnson was doing well as Prime Minister when he won the 2019 election.

At the same time, just 41 percent thought he was doing a bad job.

His approval rating is likely to get worse in the next round of polling, as it would follow the release of Ms Gray’s report.

But, Mr Johnson’s Government has already faced numerous scandals since being elected in December 2019.

During the first Covid lockdown in 2020, the PM’s chief strategist Dominic Cummings failed to resign after breaking pandemic restrictions.

Home Secretary Priti Patel was later found to have broken ministerial code after bullying civil servants.

The Government was later accused of cronyism after awarding PPE contracts to close friends and allies.

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock resigned after leaked evidence showed he broke social distancing rules.

He was later found to have acted unlawfully by not revealing the details of PPE contracts.

In November 2021, the Government tried to push through Parliamentary changes to save Tory MP Owen Paterson, after he was found to have broken paid advocacy rules.

…and then evidence of parties in Downing Street throughout lockdowns were revealed, sparking numerous apologies from the PM.
