Boris Johnson's awkward high five and hug as he went to give speech

The prime minister reacted awkwardly to being high fived by Sajid Javid, just moments before he delivered his speech at Conservative Party conference.

The chancellor tried to greet Boris Johnson with the gesture as he met with senior colleagues one by one on his way to the podium.

However, Sajid Javid was left hanging as the prime minister grasped the palm of his hand.

Mr Javid appeared to look confused by the incident.

The prime minister instead gave a warm embrace to the home secretary Priti Patel.

Mr Johnson used the speech to set out details of his Brexit strategy, in one last effort to negotiate a deal with the EU.
