The wife of a Ukrainian politician who managed to survive a suspected assassination attempt has been featured on the cover of Playboy.
Iryna Bilotserkovets, who is married to an aide of the mayor of Kyiv, underwent months of reconstructive surgery after she and her children were shot at in February last year.
But the model and TV presenter has since become a symbol of resistance in the war-torn country.
Iryna is pictured on the cover of the latest issue of the magazine in a metal bikini and heart-shaped eye patch.
Speaking to Playboy about her ordeal, she said: ‘I was just Frankenstein’s monster. My jaw had shattered, like a twig.
‘An eye missing, tubes sticking out everywhere, hair shaved off from surgery
‘I no longer have a pretty face, but the rest of my body is beautiful.’
Iryna explained she was driving home when she was hit by the bullets.
She had to undergo four operations and was left with a missing eye and a broken jaw.
‘Doctors in Ukraine said I was probably going to die. I didn’t agree,’ she said.
‘It was not a question of preserving my beauty; it was a question of whether I should live or not.’
It is the first edition to be printed in Ukraine since the the start of the war, titled ‘Women Stay Strong’.
