British Beautician jailed for one year for butt lift that killed TV producer

A British woman who performed a deadly butt lift out of her basement in New York has been jailed for a year.

Donna Francis, 34, was extradited from the UK to stand trial in the states for criminal negligent homicide.

A court heard how the British national, who did not have a beauty license, charged US patient Kelly Mayhew $1,600 for the botched operation – then fled to London the day after she died.

Prosecutors said Kelly, a TV producer, went into cardiac arrest as Francis ‘pumped a clear liquid substance’ into her buttocks.

She refused to tell the victim’s mother the address to give responders when she called 911 and left her as she lay dying.

Kelly’s mum, who had travelled with her from Maryland for the operation on May 30 2015, said her final words were ‘mommy hold my hand’.

At her sentencing, Francis was in tears, and said she regretted the incident.

‘It wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone,’ she said. ‘I’m sorry for all the years this has been going on. I’m just sorry.’

Francis was given the maximum sentence allowed in the extradition agreement.

New York Judge Kenneth Holder told her: ‘The phrase ‘getting away with murder’ certainly applies to you’.

‘If you have a conscience, this is going to haunt you much longer than the one-year sentence you’re going to serve.’

Francis used silicone gel purchased on Ebay to perform the operation.

A medical examiner said she died from systemic silicone emboli, when the unencapsulated silicone entered her bloodstream and caused an embolism.

Emergency responders found Mayhew lying unresponsive face up at the bottom of the stairs.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Mayhew’s brother, Richard Lane, said that his sister ‘died for greed. A life lost for money’.

Her mother, Latrice, told the New York Post: ‘If you can sleep on the fact that you just killed someone…then you don’t care. She got away with murder.’
