Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall never tried to replace Princess Diana in Prince Charles and his sons’ life but has been acting as a “buffer” between both the parties, author Judy Wade claimer. In quotes unearthed by The List this week, the late Ms Wade claimed the Duchess served as a mediator whenever her husband clashed with Prince William and Prince Harry’s decision. She however was said to refrain from questioning Charles’ parenting as she “trusts” the Prince of Wales when it comes to handling his sons.

The List reported: “It’s worth noting Camilla apparently never tried to take Diana’s place.

“Funnily enough, nowadays, she acts as a ‘buffer’ between the boys and their father.

“In a 2007 documentary about William and Charles, the late royal expert Judy Wade revealed that Camilla serves as a go-between, particularly when Charles’ sons do something their father wouldn’t necessarily approve of.

“Notably, Camilla never actually interfered with how Charles was raising them — not only because she was too busy taking care of her own children, but also because she trusted his judgment.”

But the online publication noted Prince William and Prince Harry initially struggled with accepting Camilla and her children into their family dynamic.

They continued: “Immediately following Princess Diana’s death were especially turbulent.

“In particular, William and his stepsister Laura Parker Bowles reportedly got into fights over who was to blame for their broken homes. Likewise, William allegedly blamed Camilla for all the pain his mother went through in the final years of her life.

“Biographer Penny Junor further claimed in The Duchess: The Untold Story that William and Harry found it very tough to accept Camilla.

“Ms Junor wrote, ‘you want your mum, you don’t want her, and she had her own family’.”

Relationship expert Neil Wilkie told Express.co.uk that it has been difficult for Camilla to build a healthy relationship with William and Harry after her marriage with Prince Charles.

Mr Wilkie said: “She’s not trying to overshadow the memory of their mother and in normal life it’s a very difficult job being a stepparent.

“Particularly of a birth parent who died because the birth parent who died is often held out as being the perfect person whose life was cut short, cruelly.

“And it’s very difficult for stepparents, firstly to replace them in the eyes of the person they are married to – Charles – and secondly to replace them in the eyes of their children.

“And to do that, well, you just have to stand back to give children space to grow into and space for them to grow their relationship with you.”

He further added: “She hasn’t tried to replace Diana. She’s just tried to be somebody who’s there for them, who loves their father, who cares for them.

“So, I think she’s done a really good job in doing that.”

“And it’s very difficult for stepparents, firstly to replace them in the eyes of the person they are married to – Charles – and secondly to replace them in the eyes of their children.
