The Duchess of Cornwall, 74, launched The Reading Room in January 2021. Camilla took her club’s official Instagram page on Thursday to mark the first anniversary.

The Duchess shared a video montage with clips from celebrities who have contributed to The Reading Room including actress Judi Dench, actor Charles Dance and author Stephen Fry.

Camilla said in the caption: “And just like that, The Reading Room is a year old!

“What a joy it’s been to talk to – and be inspired by – so many brilliant authors over the past twelve months; to learn more about their creations and share the joy of their books with you, our followers.

“Possibly the only greater thing than enjoying a great book, is sharing a love of that book with others…

“We can’t wait to embark on so many more literary adventures over the next year and we hope you continue to join us on the journey.”

The post prompted a delighted response from followers of The Reading Room.

One user michielschristel commented: “Thank you for the initiative! It’s my favourite room on Instagram! Best wishes for 2021 and keep on reading lots and lots! #fromBelgium.”

Another, barnesedel, said: “I have loved the Reading Room so much, it has brought comfort and inspiration, and joy, through the darkness of the COVID days, thank you.”

A third Instagram user, staceysgirlx_, wrote: “Congratulations. The reading room has made me read books I wouldn’t have normally read so thank you.”

Another, tessalovescooking, added: “Congratulations. Thank you for all the great books you have shown!”

A fifth user, muisjemama, said: “Congratulations! It’s one of the best things that happened last year. On many more years to come!”

Last January around the time Camilla launched her club, she opened up on how lockdown was a “wonderful opportunity” for reading.

In a video posted on Instagram, Camilla said: “I think it’s a sort of renaissance of reading, really.

“You know, whatever other awful things came out of lockdown I think reading has come out extremely well and I think it’s revived and we just want to keep that going.”
