Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last month, Camilla is now known as Queen Consort. Camilla’s husband, King Charles III is praised for his can-do attitude, even as the former Prince of Wales, but Camilla was used to taking a more behind-the-scenes role as Duchess of Cornwall previously. As a result, according to royal expert and author Katie Nicholl, the 75-year-old will be faced with a “huge change” as she stands alongside Charles in their newly-appointed roles.

Speaking on a special episode of Palace Confidential, Ms Nicholl said: “Camilla is 75, Charles is 73, 74 this year.

“They’re at an age where most people are beginning to think about, prehaps, winding down.

“Not necessarily retiring, but certainly slowing down.”

She added despite this, the couple’s role has been forced to “step up” as it is “going to be a big pace change”.

Ms Nicholl then spoke of the King’s “remarkable work ethic”.

She added that “it is very common for him to be working well past midnight.”

Because of this, she noted it will be a challenge for Camilla, to be “keeping up” with Charles’ “pace of life”.

Ms Nicholl referred to the change as a “big shift in gear”.

Camilla married Charles in April 2005 more than 17 years ago.

Before Camilla, Charles was married to the late Princess Diana, who is the mother of his two sons.

Earlier this year, the late Queen Elizabeth II expressed her “sincere wish” that her daughter-in-law will be known as Queen Consort once her eldest son took over the throne.

Queen Elizabeth II’s wishes end speculation as to what Camilla would be titled as following Charles ascending the throne.
