Detectives urgently searching for the mother of a newborn abandoned in a Birmingham park have released fresh CCTV footage in an appeal to the public.
The baby boy was ‘possibly only hours old’ when he was found clothed and wrapped in a blanket by a dog walker in The Mound, Kings Norton, last Thursday.
He was taken to hospital at around 5.30pm and remains there. He is said to be full-term, healthy and doing well.
Officers have been trying to track down the infant’s mother for days and say they are ‘very concerned’ about her physical and mental welfare.
They have today released fresh footage of a woman they believe may be able to help in their search.
The woman was spotted walking down Shannon Road – the street leading off the park – just before 5.10pm on Thursday.
Detectives have urged anyone who may know her to get in touch.
West Midlands Police said: ‘Sadly we’ve still not been able to find the mother of this little boy.
‘We’re very concerned for her and want to check she is doing okay, both physically and mentally.
‘This is our only concern right now, giving birth is a big thing and we’re concerned she will need medical help.
‘This must be a very difficult time for her so we’re keen to talk to her as soon as possible.
‘We’re appealing directly to the mother of the boy or anyone who knows who she is to please get in touch.
‘If anyone recognises the woman in the CCTV, please get in touch she may hold vital information.’
Anyone with information is urged to contact 101.
