Coronavirus news live – UK death toll passes 34,000 and anti-lockdown gatherings

Another 468 people have died after contracting coronavirus in the UK, bringing the country’s death toll to 34,466

The number includes deaths in hospitals as well as care homes and the wider community.

Shocking data from The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published Thursday revealed almost 150,000 people in England had coronavirus in the space of just two weeks.

The ONS found an average of 148,000 people – equivalent to 0.27% of the population – had coronavirus between April 27 and May 10.
