The number of coronavirus deaths in England and Wales fell by 13% in a week, the latest figures show.
A total of 7,320 deaths registered in the week ending February 5 mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). That is down 13% from 8,433 deaths in the week to January 29.
More than four in 10 (43%) of all deaths registered in England and Wales in the week to February 5 mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate – the third highest proportion recorded during the pandemic.
