NHS England is advancing the coronavirus vaccine programme to those over 33 years old – soon after 34-year-olds became eligible. It means a further one million Brits are able to book their Covid jabs from 7am.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said extending the rollout to 32 and 33-year-olds is “an incredible step forward in the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in NHS history” and urged people to get their jab when contacted.

It coincides with the concerning spread of the Indian variant in parts of the country.

Ministers are confident current vaccines available to Brits will be effective against the more contagious strain.
