‘Devil was inside me’: 28-year-old Mum sends stark coronavirus warning

Jamie Baggett came down with a chest infection and a week later was hooked to an oxygen tank. Ms Baggett is out of hospital and is now self-isolating. She told The Sun: “I didn’t travel abroad or even come into contact with anyone I knew to have the virus.

“I’m generally fit, I go to the gym quite a lot, I eat healthily and I enjoy my spin classes.

“But the symptoms escalated quickly.”

Ms Baggett, who has an 8-year-old son, is from Loughton, Essex and is an asthma sufferer.

She explained her ordeal: “At the start of the month I started getting symptoms and I went to the doctor with what I thought was a chest infection.

“I had cold-like symptoms, a fever and I began to feel nauseous.

“The doctor prescribed me antibiotics and a few days later I had felt better.”

But, she said: “I still wheezed with a continuous cough.

“I developed pneumonia and I was diagnosed with Covid-19.”

She was treated at Harlow’s Princess Alexandria Hospital: “It was horrific pain. I was sick three times when I was coughing. I had a constant pain and aches all over,” she said: “It felt like the devil was inside me.”

Ms Baggett continued: “My chest was the worst. It was like a stabbing pain every time I took a breath.

“It felt like it was piercing my inside and lasted a while.”

She added: “Since I’ve been home I’ve had a lot of back pain and I still get coughing fits.

“I’m not 100 per cent but I’m a lot better.

“Rylan (her son) has been brilliant. He’s being a really brave little boy.”

She admitted a fear that she will infect her son: “What if he gets it from me but doesn’t have any symptoms? I’m terrified.”

The Department for Health and Social Care said more than 5,000 in the UK have tested positive for the virus.

The number of deaths hit 233 on Saturday morning.

Government advice is currently to stay home if you have a temperature or new, continuous cough.

If you have symptoms you are advised to stay at home for seven days, 14 if someone in your home has symptoms from the day they first began to show them.

The NHS website says: “The NHS will contact you from Monday 23 March 2020 if you are at particularly high risk of getting seriously ill with coronavirus. You’ll be given specific advice about what to do.

“Do not contact your GP or healthcare team at this stage – wait to be contacted.”
