The Duke of Sussex is expected to be returning to the UK in the summer to unveil a statue of his late mother alongside the Duke of Cambridge. Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 and this August marked 24 years since her death.

The statue of the late Princess of Wales commissioned by Harry and William is expected to be installed to mark what would have been her 60th birthday on July 1, 2021.

However, the relationship between the two Dukes is reportedly tense at the moment after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah in March.

A Palace source told Best Life that Diana would have been “heartbroken” to see a rift between her sons.

Royal author Christopher Andersen wrote that the princess once said: “William and Harry are my one splendid achievement.”

A royal insider told Best Life: “The statue is rife with meaning.

“It is a permanent tribute to the Princess of Wales for everyone to see, but it also symbolises her deep connection with her sons, who worked together to see it become a reality.

“It would truly be heart-breaking to have the occasion marred by bitterness between William and Harry—especially if Harry isn’t there. The princess would never have wanted that.”

The statue of Diana will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace and was commissioned by the brothers to recognise “her positive impact” in the UK and around the world.

The Princess of Wales moved into Kensington Palace after her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.

Diana continued to live in the palace after their divorce and until her death.

She is known to have loved spending time in the Kensington Palace gardens.

A royal insider also told Best Life: “Diana would have been so moved that William and Harry selected a place that was special to her for the statue.

The Duke of Sussex revealed his tense relationship with his brother during the interview with Oprah.

Harry told the US chat show host that he is on a “different path” to William and claimed his brother is trapped “within the system” of the Royal Family.

He added: “The relationship is space at the moment. And, you know, time heals all things, hopefully.”
