Fake VIP paedophile ring accuser Carl Beech lodges appeal over 18-year sentence

A fantasist jailed for lying about a VIP paedophile ring has applied to appeal his conviction and sentence.

Carl Beech, 51, is serving an 18-year sentence after being found guilty of fraud and 12 counts of perverting the course of justice for a series of abuse fantasies involving public figures that prompted a high-profile and costly police investigation.

After applying for permission to appeal the sentence, it could take around five months for Beech’s case to be assessed by a judge.

The judge will then decide whether the former NHS manager’s appeal should be heard.

In a series of tearful interviews with detectives in 2014, Beech claimed he had been the victim of a paedophile ring that included senior politicians, military chiefs, and the heads of the intelligence services

He said other victims were tortured, raped and abused by the high-profile abusers – and had witnessed the sadistic murder of three young boys.

It launched a large and expensive investigation – Operation Midland – by Metropolitan Police, and saw the homes of figures such as D-Day veteran Lord Bramall and former Tory MP Harvey Proctor and Lady Diana Brittan raided.

But the £2m operation ended in 2016 without any arrests, and was ultimately seen as a huge embarrassment for the police force.
