An NHS worker who died suddenly at home was a “one in a million” woman who loved helping others. Amber Sugden, 24, died on February 27, leaving her family and patients and staff at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough devastated. The medical secretary’s death has sent shockwaves through the local community, and her loved ones now plan to commemorate her life.
Ms Sugden’s parents have led tributes to their daughter as they recover from the shocking loss.
Jo Thompson and Matty Sugden praised the “kind” and “selfless” girl who would always “go all out to help anybody”.
Speaking to Teesside Live, Ms Thompson said she was an “amazing, beautiful girl inside and out”.
She added that her daughter was dedicated to her job and loved playing as hard as she worked.
In life, she was the “kindest girl” who was “absolutely selfless” and always focused on helping people without hopes of a return.
The mother added that the family is in “shock” and “can’t believe she’s gone”.
Family and friends have flocked to the family’s side as they deal with their loss, with locals similarly affected.
Ms Thompson said that her old employers and school teachers were among those who have contacted them since learning of her death.
She said she was comforted by the fact that “everybody lucky enough to have met her” had contacted them.
People who knew the 24-year-old have also mourned via social media.
One friend paid tribute to the “loud, confident, bubbly” girl who “you could always hear first before seeing!”
They added that she “never had a smile off your face” and dubbed her the “light and soul of the party”.

Another friend concurred with the first poster, saying Ms Sugden was the “loudest soul in the room”.
They added that everyone “loved and treasured” her and that she was “one in a million”.
Family and friends sent off the much-loved woman in a weekend ceremony last week.
They attended a balloon release ceremony which Ms Thompson said perfectly reflected her daughter’s personality.
She said the event was “colourful” and “bright”, encapsulating “everything that she was all about”.
They plan to hold another event just over a week from now in Middlesborough.
People will gather at St Bede’s Chapel, Acklam, 17 10.30am on Friday, March 17.
Loved ones will then travel to Linthorpe Cemetery in Middlesbrough to say their final goodbyes at 11.45am.
