A “large fire” has broken out at an industrial estate in Weston-super-Mare, Avon Fire & Rescue Service has revealed.

Flames and plumes of smoke could be seen rising into the night’s skies from the location in Oldmixon.

In an update, Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “Please be aware of a large fire ongoing in Oldmixon Industrial Estate, Weston-super-Mare.

“Avoid the area if possible, please can local residents close windows and doors where possible.”

In a clip uploaded to Facebook, a woman could be heard saying: “Look how big that is.”

Following the sound of a bang, a man replied: “There’s a propane canister going off.”

In a separate video, the same individual said: “Happy Christmas, innit.”

Oldmixon Industrial Estate is around two miles away from Weston-super-Mare town centre and one of the most popular beaches in North Somerset.

It also includes car parking spaces for 50 vehicles, including three disabled bays.

Express.co.uk has approached Avon Fire & Rescue Service for more details.
