Zara, 40, is patron of the Gold Coast Star Magic Millions Racing Carnival in Australia and traditionally has attended the event with Mike, 43, every year. However, due to Covid, the royal couple are unable to attend the racing event.

In a funny moment with Australian sports channel 7+, the couple appeared via video link with a tropical background.

Zara and Mike joked they were trying to convince themselves they were somewhere warm, despite it being “minus 1 degree temperatures” in Britain.

During the interview which was shared on the Magic Millions’ Instagram page, the presenter pointed out the island background of the video call.

The presenter said: “I was expecting to see you somewhere cold.

“Are you on the Gold Coast, Hawaii or somewhere fictitious?”

Mike fired back: “We’re trying to feel like we’re on the Gold Coast.

“It’s about minus one outside and miserable and pitch black.”

Zara then added: “We are so missing the warmth,

“Last year was definitely a no-no on coming down and this year was kind of almost there and really itching to get out there.”

Mike, who was wearing a floral shirt under a tan blazer, also joked he was dressed like Dick Diggler, a male porn star featured in a 1988 mockumentary.

Zara, a former Olympic equestrian, then shared she is keeping an eye on the event from afar.

She said: “It looked incredible, and like it went very well, and was an incredible addition to the whole day.

“The day’s already amazing with the polo and to put the show jumping in there must have been a real sight to see.”

She added that she cannot wait to attend the festival’s edition next year.

Earlier in January, Mike shared a picture of his and Zara’s baby son Lucas Tindall.

Lucas was born in March 2021, with Mike announcing the royal baby’s birth via his podcast.

In a post on Instagram, Mike shared a snap of Zara while pushing a pram through a Cotswolds forest strewn with fairy lights.
