A 17-year-old girl who was involved in a horror car crash on Christmas Eve has died, police said today.
The teenage victim was a passenger in a black VW Golf which collided with a BMW in Wolverhampton just before 2.30am on December 24.
The girl, who has only been named locally as Simi, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she sadly passed away the same day.
The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He has been released under investigation as enquiries continue. The two occupants in the BMW received minor injuries.
Sergeant Dean Caswell, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the family who are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.’
West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to reports of a crash on Sandy Lane, in the Aldersley area of the city.
A service spokesperson said: ‘We were called to reports of a two-car RTC on Sandy Lane at 2.25am.
‘Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene.
‘On arrival we discovered there were four occupants of the vehicles.
‘One of them, a female patient, was found to be in a critical condition.
‘She received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on blue lights and sirens.
‘The other three occupants did not require treatment.’
