Girl, four, dies as police launch investigation

Police are investigating the death of a four-year-old girl who was found unresponsive at a property in a Scots town.

Officers found the youngster after being called to Eastwood Avenue, Stranraer, at around 6.10am this morning.

She was taken to hospital but pronounced dead shortly after her arrival there.

The circumstances surrounding her death are unclear.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.10am on Sunday, July 16, 2023 officers were called to a report of an unresponsive child at an address on Eastwood Avenue, Stranraer.

“Emergency services attended and the four-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.”

Photographs taken at the scene showed officers in front of the property.
