Homes at risk of flooding and damage with yellow weather warning issued

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across England, Wales and Northern Ireland this evening.

The warning runs from 8pm to 4am tomorrow morning and is in place alongside a previously announced warning for parts of Scotland.

London, Cardiff and Belfast are covered by the new warning, which stretches across most of the south coast of England and much of Wales to most of Northern Ireland.

The Met Office warned: ‘Some flooding of a few homes and businesses (is) possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures’.

It also said drivers should be aware that conditions could be treacherous and train passengers can expect delays.

It added that there would ‘probably’ be some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes and gusty winds’, labelling short term power losses are also possible.

The warning for parts of Scotland expires at 3pm today.
