If you still don’t know who to vote for in the general election but know where you stand on Brexit, then you may already be considering tactical voting.
The People’s Vote group has announced it is backing 100 candidates in the general election in a tactical attempt to force a second Brexit referendum.
Its ‘PV100’ list includes independents, Lib Dems and Labour candidates who are all in support of a second Brexit referendum which will give the public the opportunity to Remain.
But how do you find out who the People’s Vote are backing?
The cross-party campaign group is encouraging tactical voting in the general election on 12 December.
It has set up a website – www.tactical-vote.uk – asking people to go online to find out the People’s Vote recommendation in their constituency.
On the website, you will also find a map of the UK, with target constituencies highlighted pink.
These areas – including Lewes, Canterbury, North Devon, Bolsover, Bishop Auckland and Workington – are considered ‘battleground seats’ by the People’s Vote.
They are the top 100 targets that it hopes second referendum-supporting candidates can win.
These key seats need to be won in order to create a People’s Vote majority in Parliament, the group says.
Independent Dominic Grieve, Lib Dem Chuka Umunna and Labour Rosie Duffield top the ‘PV100’ list who will get financial and campaign support from the cross-party group.
It hopes it can help candidates win key seats from the Conservatives in order to topple the party’s majority and force a second Brexit referendum.
So how do I know who to vote for if I want a second referendum?
All you have to do is visit the website and enter your postcode to find out the election candidate in your area that the People’s Vote recommend supporting.
The group recommends a candidate in almost every seat.
People’s Vote said: ‘The PV100 candidates were selected using sophisticated analysis of both public and private polling, including data from general, local and EU election results and constituency specific data.
‘Ahead of the election, the People’s Vote tactical voting site will recommend a candidate in almost every seat, but today’s announcement stresses the particular importance of voting tactically for the PV100 candidates.
‘When voters in these key constituencies use the site for recommendations, the significance of the PV100 candidate will be sign-posted.’
