The Duke of Sussex recalled the last time he attended the WellChild awards in London with his wife, Meghan Markle. Prince Harry choked up and fought back tears while speaking about parenthood in his speech. But the moment has since sparked Jeremy Vine to question his emotional stress.
Speaking on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show, he said: “I’m just trying to work it out. So, he’s emotional because he’s a new dad, right?
“And he’s with a charity that helps children who are unwell.
“Then I wonder if he is also under a bit of strain as well.”
Broadcaster Angela Scanlon added: “I don’t know. I think it’s amazing that he’s comfortable to do that.
“He’s always talking about mental health I think it’s quite a good thing to see men cry in public.”
When Prince Harry broke down during the speech, Gabby Roslin stepped in to comfort him, before he continued: “Sorry. I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight throughout the awards and both of us were wondering what it would be like to be parents one day.
“And more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to help our child, should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.
“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you, pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could ever have understood until I had a child of my own.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived at the Royal Lancaster London earlier on Tuesday for tonight’s awards.
Meghan donned a dark green dress, which royal fans will recognise from their 2017 photo call when Harry and Meghan announced their engagement.
The Duchess of Sussex paired the dress with a tan coat loosely draped over her shoulders and shoes from her 2018 visit to Ireland, where she met Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
As the Duke and Duchess chatted with guests at the WellChild Awards, Meghan and Harry shared their pride about their son five-month-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan revealed baby Archie has already attended his first playgroup class, according to royal correspondent Rebecca English.
Meghan said: “I just took Archie for his first [playgroup] class. It was a lot of fun. He loved it.”
Prince Harry also confirmed Archie has inherited his ginger locks – after much speculation from royal fans – as he revealed you can “see it in his eyebrows”.
The royals were showered with gifts at the event.
