Many dog owners can relate to Mr Middleton’s struggle when his 13-year-old dog, Ella, ran to socialise with other people in the park. However, the meeting may have been fated as the spaniel pup ran into Alizée Thevenet – his current fiancé.

The entrepreneur took his dog to the South Kensington Club in Chelsea in 2018 and Ella ran straight for Alizée, who mistook him for a waiter.

James explained the destined meeting in the Telegraph: “Rather embarrassed, I went over to apologise and bring Ella back.

“But Alizée thought I was the waiter and ordered her drink while continuing to stroke Ella, who at this point was on her back lapping up the attention.

“Little did I know, but I had just met my future wife, all thanks to Ella.”

The pair got engaged in September 2019.

Their wedding was originally planned to go ahead last May, however, due to Covid restrictions the couple decided to delay the ceremony.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s brother is a known lover of dogs and last week he and his fiancé shared a picture of their new home. This included an adorable snap of their dogs.

“I think buying a house is up there with one of the most stressful experiences in my life,” Mr Middleton on Instagram.

“It’s been a hectic few months moving in to our new home & we couldn’t be happier.
