The Duke of Cambridge flew to Dubai for his first official trip abroad since pandemic travel restrictions hit and he was clearly thrilled to be back in the sky. He posted a picture on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge official Instagram account of the stunning Dubai skyline taken from his plane window, as he arrived in the United Arab Emirates ahead of the UK National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The caption read: “Excited to be arriving in Dubai to celebrate the UK at @expo2020dubai and discuss the vital issue of working together with the UAE and international partners to achieve a more sustainable world with @earthshotprize and @unitedforwildlife.

He signed off simply with ‘W’.

Taking to Instagram, social media users were quick to gush over how relatable the image was.

One Instagram user, royallifefan, wrote: “Great picture, the Duchess isn’t the only one with photography skills.”

A third user, campermegt, penned: “Beautiful photo! Nicely captured.”

A fourth user, kate_babykins, commented on the royal’s commitment to flying green, writing: “Prince William flew commercial! Absolutely a King!”

One more user, kittykoo7000, wrote: “Fab photo, looking forward to your updates.”

According to reporter Richard Palmer the Prince landed in Dubai on a commercial flight, showing his commitment to environmental issues by not flying privately.

A sixth user, thisisreenag, said: “Refuse to believe the future king of England sits behind the wing,” accompanied with a winking emoji.

Another user, mylapa_photos, wrote: “Royals they are like us – they take photos from the sky!! Love it!”

For National Day the UK will take over the Expo site to showcase British talent.

As part of the festivities the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay, launched by Her Majesty last year from Buckingham Palace, will parade through the Expo site to visit Commonwealth National Pavilions.

The Prince will use his time abroad to promote two Royal Foundation Programmes – United for Wildlife and the Earthshot Prize.

He will in turn learn more about initiatives that protect UAE wildlife.

2022 is set to be a big year for the royals, as the Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee.

Numerous celebrations are planned, including an extra long bank holiday weekend at the beginning of June.

Thank You Day on June 5 will see a raft of street parties take place across the country, with millions estimated to be taking part.

February 6 marked the official anniversary of the Queen ascending to the throne, and she celebrated with a tea party and a huge cake at her estate in Sandringham, Norfolk.
The Queen has now reigned over the country longer than any other British monarch.
