Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge have sent Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby daughter Lilibet Diana “a gift”, according to royal sources. The two couples have had a strained relationship since Harry and Meghan decided to step back as senior royals in January 2020 and speak of their experiences in public interviews.

A royal source told Us Weekly that Kate and William were both “informed about the birth and have sent Lilibet a gift”.

Access reported that the couple had “sent the newest addition of the Royal Family a present” and also “took to Instagram to share their excitement”.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their daughter, named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Sunday evening.

The Duchess of Sussex had given birth on Friday at 11:40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California.

Lilibet weighed 7lbs 11oz and a spokesperson for the couple said both mother and baby are “healthy and well, and settling in at home”.

After the announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a post to Instagram to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan.

They said “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Buckingham Palace also released a statement saying, “The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The latest addition to the Royal Family is the Queen’s eleventh great-grandchild and is eighth-in-line to the throne.

Relations between the Sussex couple and members of the Royal Family have been strained for the last 18 months, following the fallout from Meghan and Harry’s decision to step back as senior royals and relocate to California.

Their tell-all explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March brought a crisis upon the monarchy, as Buckingham Palace were accused of neglect and racism.

The couple claimed that their pleas for mental health had been ignored, that they had been financially cut adrift and that a senior member of the Royal Family have voiced concerns over the skin colour of their unborn child.

In the interview, Prince Harry characterised his relationship with William as “space” and said he felt “really let down” by his father, Prince Charles.

Meghan Markle also told Oprah that it was Kate who had made her cry during a flower girl dress fitting in 2018. The tabloid media had reported this story inaccurately and had left the Duchess feeling vilified by the press.

Whilst Prince Harry and Prince William put on a united front for the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip, discussions behind closed doors were reportedly unproductive.

The two brothers and Kate are next due to reunite on July 1, for the unveiling of their mother Princess Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace Gardens.
