Prince William has become “closer” to his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge over the last year, as the couple navigate the Royal Family without Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Since the couple’s departure in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken on more royal duties, and are now regarded as two of the leading figures within the British monarchy.
One source told People: “They are even stronger. In the last 18 months, William didn’t have his brother to rock.
“And that’s what brought him closer to Kate, and made them even stronger.
“She really is his rock.”
Since then, the couple have spoken publicly about their rift with the Royal Family, with Prince Harry discussing his strained relationship with Prince William.
During their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry characterised their relationship as “space” and said they were “on different paths”.
Whilst the brothers displayed a united front during the funeral of Prince Philip, and the unveiling of Diana’s statue, reconciliatory talks behind closed doors have reportedly been unproductive.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken a more active role within the family since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and have been praised for their efforts to boost community spirits.
Kate is due to take over two of Prince Harry’s patronages, the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League, and has recently launched her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
She received praise for her Hold Still exhibition, which was done in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, where she asked members of the public to share their photographs of the pandemic.
The initiative received over 30,000 submissions, with the top 100 images displayed across the UK on murals and billboards.
Both she and Prince William have also hosted a number of engagements to thank and celebrate frontline workers and conducted a 3-day tour of the UK to visit NHS staff.

Meanwhile, Prince Wiliam launched the Earthshot Prize in October 2020, which aims to provide funding and incentive for environmental solutions over the next decade.
As well as attending the G7 summit with Kate, he has also taken over the patronages of Flora and Fauna International and the British Trust for Ornithology and has become a joint Patron of NHS Charities Together.
Prince William married his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton in a televised service at Westminster Abbey in April 2011.
The couple had embarked on a relationship during their time at St Andrews University, where they had initially lived together as friends.
To mark their 10-year wedding anniversary, the couple released a sweet video of them playing with their children and toasting marshmallows. The couple share three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who reside with the Cambridges at Kensington Palace.
