Kate and William set for furious clash with Harry as Duke attempts Diana legacy takeover

Prince Harry owning Diana legacy is a ‘problem’ says expert

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William have committed to improving debate on mental health through a series of causes they have taken up since they married in 2011. Prince Harry joined the pair in their efforts to promote the work of several charities with the Heads Together programme, which was launched before the Duke of Sussex married Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signalled their intention to put mental health at the centre of their future projects now they are no longer working royals, a move which could put them on a collision course with Kate and William.

Speaking to True Royalty TV, royal expert Katie Nicholl said: “I think William will be concerned with that … Harry trying to take ownership of the Diana Legacy will be a problem.

“But also Harry doing mental health, Harry doing conservation, these are the issues that William and Kate want to do – that’s where I predict tensions.

“Heads Together was also Kate’s Idea.”

Fellow commentator Russell Myers added that Meghan and Harry could face additional backlash for earning money while attempting to build upon the work started alongside Kate and William.

Mr Myers said: “They’re earning money from doing that so if they do have mental health podcasts, if they’re going to have a series with Oprah Winfrey that they get paid millions of dollars for, that is the real issue.”

Prince Harry has also not hidden the fact he is hoping to work on the legacy of Princess Diana as he signalled when the website for his and Meghan’s new organisation, Archewell, was launched earlier this month.

The pair opted to include two pictures of themselves with their mothers, the Princess of Wales and Doria Ragland, within the About page explaining the goals of the new non-profit.

The shots were accompanied by the caption: “I am my mother’s son. And I am our son’s mother.

Prince Harry and Prince William are expected to reunite in the summer to unveil a statue of their mother Diana outside Kensington Palace to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

The brothers experienced some tensions in the aftermath of the Duke of Sussex’s wedding in 2018 but Ms Nicholl suggested the two royals have been mending fences since Harry and Meghan moved to the United States last March.

Ms Nicholl said: “This time last year, Prince William and Prince Harry weren’t talking to one and another.

“Things are better. There are still things to overcome but I think they all realise that you do have to move on in life.

“The intention is that the four of them will be together for the unveiling of Diana’s statue.”

Prince Harry and Meghan were expected to return to the UK last summer to visit the Queen and Prince Philip but plans had to be postponed because of the travel restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.
