Princess Kate tried to act as the “peacemaker” between Prince William and Prince Harry during their deteriorating relationship claims one royal correspondent. The podcast Scandal Mongers has recently done a deep dive into the “real divide that drives the current feud in the House of Windsor” and had royal expert Valentine Low on as a guest.
Mr. Low has been a royal correspondent for The Times for over 25 years and is also the author of Courtiers which gives insight into the inner workings of the Royal Family and their most trusted palace advisors.
In the interview, Mr. Low explained Kate’s role in the current royal rift between William and Harry has been to act as a mediator between the brothers. He said: “She was often the peacemaker, or tried to be the peacemaker, with Harry…you saw that after Philip’s funeral when she kind of brought the brothers together.”
Once Prince Phillip’s funeral had ended in April 2021, Kate was spotted engaging with Harry in conversation before the pair were joined by William. Kate was then seen dropping behind and walking slower, in a move some interpreted as her giving the royal brothers privacy to talk.
Some details of the dispute between both William and Harry – documented in Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare – are unknown, but it has been claimed that their relationship began to deteriorate during the Christmas of 2018.

Katie Nicholl, the royal correspondent for Vanity Fair claimed Harry believed William was not doing enough to welcome Meghan Markle into the Royal Family.
She cited a source, who said: “Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so. They had a bit of a fallout, which was only resolved when Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort. That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them.”
Ms. Nicholl has also alleged that William was “quite concerned” Harry and Meghan’s relationship had moved “too quickly” and expressed those thoughts to his brother.
She continued: “I think what was meant as well-intended brotherly advice just riled Harry. Harry is hugely protective of Meghan. He saw that as criticism. He interpreted that as his brother not really being behind this marriage, this union, and I don’t think things have been quite right ever since.”
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Ms. Nicholl said: “I don’t know that things will ever be the way they were between William and Harry.”

It has been claimed that Kate no longer “feels the need” to be the peacemaker between the brothers since the release of Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’.
True Royalty founder Nick Bullen told US Weekly: “After Harry said so much about Kate in Spare, and about Camilla, the extended family – his stepmother, his sister-in-law – none of them really feel the need to follow up with a conversation.”
Earlier this year, Harry described William as his “beloved brother and arch-nemesis” in Spare. Michael Strahan, a Good Morning American anchor, asked Harry about those “strong words” and what the Duke of Sussex meant by the description.
Harry said: “There has always been this competition between us, weirdly. I think it really plays into — or is played by — the ‘heir, spare.’”
