The Duchess of Cambridge’s iconic interview on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast is back in the spotlight after it was confirmed the broadcast’s host Giovanna Fletcher is set to join ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! as a contestant. The pair struck up a solid bond as a result of the podcast, and royal fans will be hoping Ms Fletcher divulges more tales about her encounters with Kate. One confession that may be recalled is the openness with which the Duchess talked about the pressures she felt having to show off her firstborn child to the public, hours after giving birth.

George’s birth had been complicated, as Kate had suffered with severe morning sickness and was hospitalised as a result.

And just moments after George was born – and the Queen notified of his arrival – Kate and George were joined by William outside the iconic Lindo wing of London’s St Mary’s Hospital, to give fans their first glimpse of the baby.

When asked by Ms Fletcher what it was like knowing so many people were outside waiting to see George, Kate replied: “Yeah, it was slightly terrifying. I’m not going to lie. It’s hard to compartmentalise the whole thing.

“Because you know, everyone had been so supportive. William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about.

“And we were hugely grateful for all the support that the public had shown us. And actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public, I felt that was really important.

“But equally, it was coupled with a newborn baby and inexperienced parents, and the uncertainty about what that held. There were a lot of mixed emotions.”

Kate’s frankness was widely celebrated, as it was one of the most candid interviews given by the future Queen consort, and left Ms Fletcher surprised with her tone.

She added: “I think when you speak to her, there is that sense of duty, but in such a way that she loves it.

“So many parents can relate to those moments where the best times, the ones that really sit with you, are the ones that just happen spontaneously on their own.”

Kate has often discussed how challenging she finds parenthood, and while pregnant with third child Prince Louis, opened up about how “hard it is” while on a visit to support charity Family Action.

She said: “You get a lot of support with the baby as a mother particularly in the early days but after the age of one it falls away.

“After that there isn’t a huge amount – lots of books to read. Everybody experiences the same struggle.”

And in another heartfelt confession she expressed how being a mother can be “lonely at times” and “you do feel quite isolated”.

She added during a meeting with parents in 2017: “So many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through.

“It is being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out to those around you.”
